I couldn’t resist creating one of my infamous photo collages for today’s photo challenge = “green”. It seems that living here in Portland – almost everything I see, touch, taste, and smell is green. To me – it’s a symbol for healing, renewal, and growth – especially in the environment that I live in. I feel pretty lucky to live in a region that is so lush and well…it rains a lot here. It can be quite the bummer with all the rain, but I constantly remind myself that without the rain it the trees and plants wouldn’t be so green. The sky wouldn’t be so blue. The air wouldn’t be so fresh. I especially appreciate the Green community building in Portland. A few neighborhoods in town are piloting a “city compost disposal program”, architectural firms and construction companies are partnering on Green building projects that include green rooftops, solar panels, a green products like paint, flooring, and lights to create a healthier, more sustainable environment.
What does “green” symbolize for you?

I have so many memories of summer vacations while growing up in Northern California. Whether they were at Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe, or Guerneville – they were all spent outdoors along the “water”. When I saw this photo opportunity on Sunday while lounging around at the concert in the park along Portland’s Willamette River, it immediately hit me that this would be the perfect photo for “water”. And, I was overwhelmed with memories of summer vacations along the waterfronts as a kid. I remember all the days we’d spend basking in the sun at the beach in frotn of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Of course, after laying out on my beach towel for hours at a time I’d feel the sun penetrating my back (The thought of this now – YIKES!) and quickly jump up to run into the pacific ocean to cool off. Ahhhhhhhh… Or, I remember the summer days of staying in South Lake Tahoe. The best part was lounging along the shore or going to for boat ride on the lake. Oh how I can feel the mist and wind in my face right now. Ahhhhhhhh…. And, how could I ever forget the summer days of vacationing in Guerneville along the Russian River. We’d either sit out by the hotel pool all day or down at the river. one of my favorite memories on the Russian River is renting canoes and paddling up the river. Ahhhhhhhh….
So, my friends… I’m happy to share with you my pick for this week’s photo challenge – water as well as the flood of memories from my childhood summer vacations. What vacations did you take when you were a child?

I get told to zip it – A LOT. I’ve been recently told at work that I’m “LOUD” and that I need to lower my voice. This is a true challenge for me! My own innate nature is loud, charismatic, and sometimes people find me – obnoxious. I’m working on all of this. It’s quite a challenge. I feel more like “me” when I’m of a louder volume. I try to be quiet and speak with a soft voice, but it doesn’t feel – natural. Ebb and flow. Ebb and flow. I’m working on it, grasshopper.
The thought of working long hours over this warm and sunny weekend doesn’t make for a happy camper. I really need a ZIPPER for my mouth. Happy Friday, everyone!

Yep, yep, yeppers! It’s that time of week again, folks! It’s weekly photo challenge Friday! Whooohoooo! This week’s challenge was a bit easier than usual. Okay, so I think I cheated a little. I live relatively close to a store and stopped in this week to click click click at all the boxes and sticks of candy. Mmmmm… So, for this week I’ve decided to ask you 11 questions all around candy. Here goes:
1. What’s your favorite candy?
2. Do you like hard or soft candy?
3. When you have a sweet tooth, do you prefer chocolate or hard candy?
4. Have you ever broken a tooth while eating candy?
5. When was the last time you ate a piece of candy?
6. What kind of candy was it?
7. How much candy did you get at Halloween?
8. If you could only eat one candy for the rest of your life, what would it be?
9. What was your favorite scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?
10. Is candy still candy if it doesn’t have sugar?
11. Are you like a kid in a candy store?

The week always seems to slip away; with non-stop hussle-n-bussle at work, errands to run and outings to do. It seems that I always get into a pickle until late Thursday evenings or like this week, it’s not until Friday morning that I’m scrambling to find the perfect photo to capture the weekly photo challenge. For this week’s “time”, I’ve had some ideas all along – like a photo of the whooshing of commuter traffic on a busy Portland street or perhaps a vintage-aged photo of a cemetery with old tombstones. However, I was able to cheat a bit this morning while in the waiting room at Kari’s maxilofacial surgeons a.k.a. “wisdom teeth ripper outer”. Yep! Kari is a late bloomer – now in her mid-thirties, “Daaaaaang you’re ooooooold, Kari!” – she has finally approached the point where she can’t put off the extractions anymore. Now, she lays quietly asleep on the couch looking like a cute little mouse with chunks of cheese stuffed in her cheeks. Ohhh, but back to my story. Where was I?
While in the waiting room this morning, what did I notice, but a magazine rack full of time magazines. Ha! And, of course I am obsessed with the collage feature in picasa so I added a few to the mix.
Happy friggen heat wave 2010 Friday!!!

Wow, this week’s photo challenge was a…challenge. I thought about it all week. “What in the hell am I going to shoot that will capture ‘speed’?” I thought about car wheels, bicycle wheels, a train; anything could symbolize speed. But, it had to be creative. Well lucky me. At the eleventh hour of last night – as I was driving home from a night out with friends at Bridgeport Brewery I drove by one of the many murals of Portland. And, wow did it have a sting! ha!
Enjoy! Oh, and Happy friggen Friday!!!!!

We went to Sushi on Wednesday night. Yumm! I love sushi! I had the spicy tuna roll and we split veggie tempura. Of course we couldn’t stop at dinner; we had to order dessert. Flourless chocolate cake with drizzled sauce. Oh wow! I’m gonna *pop*! As I sat at the table taking in the lovely decor and hip-sushi-house-atmosphere I thought to myself, “I wonder if I’ll find a map in this place for Friday’s weekly photo challenge.” Thanks, Dora! I knew you’d pull through! A Sake map, too!
Enjoy!

Since I wouldn’t really call myself a scholar, nor a book worm or even an avid reader, I thought that using the the Bartender’s Bible along with a Salsa making book as my models was a good go at it for my weekly photo challenge.
Happy Friggen Friday! Woooo-friggen-hoooooo!

I think this week’s photo challenge shot for “window” pretty much takes the cake. I was fretting all week long about not knowing how or where I would find this perfect “Window” photo. The weather this week in Portland has been pretty wonky; gorgeous blue skies one minute, then hail dropping through the next, and then rain rain rain. And, I mean the crappy pourrrrrring rain. As I was driving home and crossing the Burnside Bridge yesterday, the image was right in front of me. I quickly scrambled for my camera as I attempted to keep both hands on the wheel. Click Click Click. And there it was. WINDOW.
Note to group: Do not attempt to try this while driving your vehicle.

On my way home from work today, I thought I’d try to get some practice shots in for tomorrow’s weekly photo challenge “window’. I was at the stop light in front of Pioneer Square and looked over into the square. There were a bunch of afternoon commuters standing closely under a giant umbrella stand. In any other city, this May rain would be a bummer, but since it’s Portland, Oregon we all just function like ducks. Next…..
p.s. This photo somehow reminds me of a shot that Megan McIsaac would shoot. Check her out. She is very talented with the camera.
