So, another one of the great features about Portland is the food cart boom that’s happening right now. There are food carts popping up on almost every corner. And, I gotta tell you… they’re all really good. Portlanders know good food and care about feeding delicious food to their people. At any given food cart hub you can find a creperie, thai food, greek food, lebanese food, or how about a potato cart. Mmmmmmm…… My favorite so far is the “Wolf & Bear” vegan /vegetarian middle eastern cart. It sits on SE 20th and Morrison in an empty lot (it now adopted an additional food cart neighbor; the vegan taco cart). There are only 6 items on the menu. My favorites to order are the falafel pita along with a cold glass of tea-uh-nade. The pitas are made locally, the falafels are patties instead of round balls (the better to bite your teeth into), there’s a tons of greens and roasted red peppers stuffed in it, and the hummus spread oozes with love.

Oh, and to top it off the pita wrap comes with a side of pickles, olives and a pepperocini. I think I’m still digesting this scrumptious wrap of love that I grubbed down on on Saturday. Man, it’s some good shit!

Every now and then, when I’ve got my camera in hand I like to mix up the typical perspective view. I’ve got a great series of table top shots and some shots I like to take from over my head. This perspective is always fun for me. I like to place the camera on the ground and check out the view from that perspective. It’s kinda like what a cat would see.

Yesterday, while waiting for my laundry to finish at the local mat, I took a stroll through the hood. Of course, I had my camera with me so I got a few click click clicks in. I passed this deserted parking lot that was roped off with these metal chains. It can get kind of tricky to get a good shot of something so “everyday like” or non-cliche. I’m pretty happy with this perspective of the chain links.

It’s been 2 months since I launched this daily photo blog. I am already feeling proud of some accomplishments I’ve made with the blog. For one, I’ve stuck with it by creating a daily routine for two solid months. I think some genius out there decided that if you practice something for 30days, you’ve set yourself up for a good solid routine. Part of my routine has been to force (I don’t really see it as forcing, but I’m not sure what other word to use) myself to get out and click, click, click every day. I think this routine of carrying my camera with me at all times has taught me to understand that there are in fact several opportunities for 1 great daily photo – no matter how routine or mundane daily life tends to be.

Another is that when I first launched this site I had no idea if anyone would be interested in following my blog. I feel good to be able to say that as of this morning there are 1,666 (yikes, quick… someone “CLICK”) hits on my blog. For the record, my blog does not count the times I view it to see how it appears on the front side. I’ve also discovered that 4 people / bloggers have subscribed to my blog. Wow. 4 people are actually interested in following my daily photo blog! Pretty Cool!

I think the final accomplishment would be that I’m learning to think outside of the box. I’ve been practicing methods of using composition, textures, patterns, light or lighting, and creating an abstract image in my photos. I am also trying to practice not taking typical cliche photos. I do understand that at times these photos are fun and warm the hearts of many, but my intentions for doing digital photography fall more into line with using my artist abilities. Exercising an artistic style is what make my creative juices flow. I think this practice will also help me to stand out a bit more from other photographers.
