sisters

Scream, scream like a giddy, little high school girl! I’m totally looking forward to my 2nd annual “sisters-only weekend” next Saturday! I have so much to be thankful for in my beautifully, fabulous life. And, at the top of my giving appreciation to the goddesses is having two amazingly bright, intelligent, passionate, crazy-wacky, loving, sensitive, non-conservative, funny-as-all-get-out sisters who I feel so much closer to these days since I’m living in the northwest.

Watch out, Portland!

grey, rainy days of Portland.

So THESE are the days that Portlanders have been cautioning me about…

sunrise

The new job calls for certain duties such as attending meetings on campuses that have views of sunrises like this one. Awesome!

art

Art. I believe that digital photography is a form of art. One must learn to soften the eyes in order to appreciate some photographs. I’d like to present this photo as a work of art. The objects in the photo are lights; holiday lights and a chandelier light. Then, with the use of photo editing; a bit of added shadow and highlight the photography becomes a work of art.

i wanna dance with somebody

We went out last night with our pals. We had originally planned to go see the Rose City Rollers documentary release at the Hollywood Theater, but when we drove by we noticed the line was wrapped around the building. After a fist-of-five vote downstairs in the bowling alley parking lot we decided to go check out Crush Bar and give that a whirl. Good choice. The night was filled with great conversation, people watching, tastey beverages and a dance floor filled with free spirits.

“Cheers to the women we love…”

a tease

I was teased with the curiosity of what the sunrise would have looked like at the top of the aerial tram while I waiting at the bus stop today. I know, I know…. all the photographers in the world looking at this photo are probably wanting to slap me on the hand for taking this shot with a tall telephone pole smack dab in the middle of it. But, what can I say? It was the only chance to click click click at the sky.

Enjoy!

the hard-boiled, brown egg

All the “How to Photography” books and websites that I have been reading instruct readers to take a photo of an egg ontop of a white piece of paper. Last night, I pulled the last hard boiled, brown egg out of the fridge, grabbed a white piece of paper and clicked away.

Drum roll please…

beads of light

This is how I view 2010; full of light, a bit abstract and hopeful. I know it’s going to be an amazingly awesome year!

Good night, 2009. Good night, moon.

We started the year with this sunset, and we’ll end the year tonight with a full/blue moon.

2009 was a mixed bag. I accomplished some major feats. For starters, I moved my family from Charlotte back to the west coast in what economists say are the probably worst economic times in decades. I remember that golden day early February when Kari and I made a promising hand-shake – agreeing that we would do everything in our power to find the next wagon to hop on destined for the Oregon Trail and to never look back. Our family & friends called daily throwing caution to the wind that it would take much longer to move back since the recession was so bad. I laughed really loud that day in April when I got an interim job offer in Portland and said, “Honey, pack your bags, cuz we’re moving to Portland, Oregon!”

Here we are in our warm little cottage in Portland, Oregon. We’ve settled in quite nicely; meeting some new friends and re-connecting with family. We both landed awesome jobs. I dove further into my photography and created this blog. I think a daily photo blog challenge for myself was just what I needed. Kari picked up a new guitar. She’s learning the A, E, and D chords. We both tried out yoga for the first time. And, we definitely both agree that it’s a great workout for the body, mind, and especially our Spirits.

Through all of the other rough patches we encountered this year, I think what we both learned above everything else is that we’re both very lucky to have each other. Our bond is tight. Our trust is great. Our loyalty and faith in one another is amazing. Our love is intense and passionate. We’re only just getting started!

Bring it on, 2010!

light in the portland *snow*

After all the excitement settled from the snowfall last night, Kari and I went outside to tromp around in the street. I got completely distracted with the camera of course (help, it’s taking over my life!) and tripped out on the car head lights via slow shutter speed.  Way cool!

Sadly enough, I woke up throughout the night to the snow melting on my rooftop … drip, drip, drip. Come back again, Mr. Snow!

communication

Don’t you ever wonder if these telephone lines had speakers what crazy conversations you would hear? I think it’s actually quite amazing that technology has already outgrown itself and for a vast majority of people they don’t even use the landline phone anymore; including me.
