?por que no?

One of my favorite taquerias in Portland is “?Por Que No?” on SE Hawthorne. First, I love the decor inside the place. The walls are painted bright, bold colors, the plethora of mirrors on the walls add a vintage feeling to the dining room, there are strings of colorful lights throughout the restaurant, and there is always upbeat music piped in.

Oh, and did I tell you about the food and drinks? The camarones tacos are to die for; filled with shredded cabbage, chunks of pineapple, sauted chile seasoning, and juicy grilled shrimp curled up screaming, “Eat me, bitch!”

Kari and I many times love to split the bean and rice bowl which comes in a clay pot.  It’s one goopy mess of love filled with spanish rice, refried beans, queso fresco, guacamole, chipotle sauce, crema, cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime wedge. This bowl will make your mouth and stomach tremble with excitement (the good kind).

The agua frescas are homemade and sit on the front counter top in large glass jugs. Yesterday, Por Que No was serving agua verde and a mango peach blend. Oh, and add a few shots of tequila or rum if you want more love in it.

If you’re not already convinced that this is the best taqueria in town, then the never ending line out the front door and down the sidewalk might make a stronger statement. Go on! Ask anyone in that line why they’re waiting in a long ass line in the pouring rain.

darn tootin’

I dedicate this photo to Kari. For some reason, each time we pass this Portland mural she gets a good chuckle and says, “Now THAT would be a good photo!”

Here goes, honey!

do you have a diagonal eye?

At my art show last month, I received feedback from someone about a specific style that I use in a lot of my photos. He said that I use a lot of diagonals.

Up to this conversation, I never clearly defined the photography style that I use when I shoot. But, since I received that feedback, I’ve thought to myself “Of course I use diagonals! Doesn’t everyone else?” I mean, … I guess it’s an artistic eye that I have for a good framed image when I decide to click click click. I look for angles, shapes, patterns, or at least something in the frame that makes the photo *pop*.

As I explained in my About Me section, I’ve never taken a photography class. I have plans to take one very soon. So, when it comes to artistically describing my work to another artist or to “the viewer” I have a hard time articulating my art process. I think I’ve always assumed that one part of having a good photographer’s eye is to see shapes, diagonals, textures, patterns, or multiple dimensions.

Ohhhh, I have so much to learn. By the way, I need a new d-SLR Canon camera. So if you’re reading this, feeling really generous with those deep pockets of yours, feel free to offer up that camera. Thanks in advance. :)

hope…

I’ve gotta say that Life truly is a trip. Over the past 3 years, I’ve definitely had a lot of high ups and not so good downs. I think about the rough times that I’ve had and how of course- I always pull through and land solid on my feet. However, when I’m in the moment of feeling down and emotional — it feels like it’ll be eternity until the next wave will pick me up and lift my spirits again.

Over the last 24hrs, Kari and I closed a deal on our next new home. A definite high. We are so friggen excited about this home; the neighborhood, the local businesses we’ll patronize, and just the mere thought of feeling even more connected to the community.

What a trip how quickly life twists and turns. I must always remember when I am feeling blue, that just around the corner there is a positive experience waiting for me. I must embrace it when it comes. For when it does,…it’s glorious!

lazy sundays

On a warm Sunday afternoon, I wandered through downtown Portland. I decided to take load off at the infamous Pioneer Square. As I sat along the steps of the square, I noticed that all the Portlanders and tourists were sitting along the steps like me – except for this one guy who decided that laying smack dab in the middle of the square was the most comfortable spot.

I bet he’s still there.

photos by kari

I can’t take any credit for these photos, other than it was my camera. Kari took these photos last weekend while we were out on Hawthorne at the McMennamin’s Bagdad Pub. It was looking like the day would turn out to be quite nice outside and then *BAM* — downpour…….

Look at those rain drops. Note to group: Portland usually doesn’t have downpour. It typically gets that pissy pissy misty rain that never ends. This down pour seemed kinda flukey, but was kinda fun!

annual record store day

Yesterday was annual Record Store Day. In celebration of this special day, we walked over the mtn and through the woods to Hawthorne’s “Jackpot Records”. Rad store it is.  Of course I tried out both listening stations.

My album pick of the day (crappy photo, but here it is) is Solid Gold’s “Synchronize”.

my first photography show

I am totally honored to have the opportunity to showcase my first photography exhibit for the entire month of April at Gigibar here in Portland. The exhibit is already up and I heard from Gigi that folks are enjoying several pieces as they sip away at their yummy beverages and snacks.
On Saturday, April 10th, I will be hosting an open house / art reception from 11:00am – 1:00pm. If you have time, I’d love for you and your people to stop by the Gigibar located at 5941 SE Division Street, PDX, 97206 (on the corner of SE 60th and SE Division). Lite snacks will be available.
Thank you for all your support!
My best,
Trina

woodenshoes

The woodshoes are part of a long time family tradition of the Iversons in Woodburn, Oregon at the Tulip Farm. Kids and adults take turns stepping into these oversized woodshoes.

Stylish!
