What a great night we had last night with friends at the Doug Fir. Shoeshine Blue set the mood to “chill-zone”. They are super mellow, folk, Bob Dylan type band. I really like them! The other band, Peter Bernhard jammed out to some up-beat Paul Simon type tunes. Rad rad rad!

Doug Fir, I think I luuuuuuuuuv you.

It seems that lately I’ve been frequenting the Doug Fir. I like that place. I like the bar lounge. The fire place keeps me warm. The fir pit outside makes for a hipster huddle space for late night gigs. The couches are cozy. The lincoln log interior walls take me to a memory set somewhere in Tahoe or Reno. The bathrooms are a trip with wall to wall, floor to ceiling, gold-speckled mirrors. The restaurant reminds me of an ol Denny’s or Shari’s late night melting pot. The lounge downstairs has a cool atmosphere where all the bands play. And for some reason, each time I’m at the Doug Fir I end up tripping out on this curtain. Too bad it wouldn’t go with the decor in my house.

This weekend, I got to spend some qt-time with my sisters here in Portland. We stayed at the Ace Hotel, drank beers at the Clyde Commons, ate sushi at Masu Sushi, and walked across the Burnside Bridge to watch Liv Warfield “The Queen of Soul” sing her heart out at the Doug Fir. This morning, we had arranged to get our Tarot Cards read by “Tarot Chick – Renee”. I gotta tell you – she is damn good and hits it all right on the nail. I ended the morning sipping on a delicious espresso drink at the Stumptown Coffee next door to the Ace Hotel. Yummers!
If you’ve never been to Portland, then put it on your Bucket List!
