a tease

I was teased with the curiosity of what the sunrise would have looked like at the top of the aerial tram while I waiting at the bus stop today. I know, I know…. all the photographers in the world looking at this photo are probably wanting to slap me on the hand for taking this shot with a tall telephone pole smack dab in the middle of it. But, what can I say? It was the only chance to click click click at the sky.

Enjoy!

new

I feel like over the last 72 hours everything that once was dull and a bit hum-drum, quickly turned to a bright light.

the hard-boiled, brown egg

All the “How to Photography” books and websites that I have been reading instruct readers to take a photo of an egg ontop of a white piece of paper. Last night, I pulled the last hard boiled, brown egg out of the fridge, grabbed a white piece of paper and clicked away.

Drum roll please…

beads of light

This is how I view 2010; full of light, a bit abstract and hopeful. I know it’s going to be an amazingly awesome year!

dock II

Today, I was looking through a few photo albums that I have from months past. I came across this photo that I took and posted a few months back. Now that I look at it, I don’t think I gave myself enough credit for it. I remember that day. I was feeling a bit slumpy with life. It took everything in me to push myself out of the house and to capture some photos that were different from my typical style.

It was a typical grey day; cloudy with the cold sun peaking through a few clouds. I drove down to the east side of the riverfront along the Willamette River. I walked along a path that I discovered and noticed that joggers & cyclists seem to use the path on a daily basis. Further down the path I found this dock which seemed to interest me. I like the look of it; how long it appeared to be. I also liked the steel poles that were posted in the water along side the dock. As I continued to assess the area, I noticed the patterns that were there with the dock, the poles, the canoes, the bridge, and the building in downtown Portland. I also noticed a man packing up his kayak, carrying it on his shoulders and was heading for the path. Click, click, click, click!!!! And, then vio la! There was the photo.

Good night, 2009. Good night, moon.

We started the year with this sunset, and we’ll end the year tonight with a full/blue moon.

2009 was a mixed bag. I accomplished some major feats. For starters, I moved my family from Charlotte back to the west coast in what economists say are the probably worst economic times in decades. I remember that golden day early February when Kari and I made a promising hand-shake – agreeing that we would do everything in our power to find the next wagon to hop on destined for the Oregon Trail and to never look back. Our family & friends called daily throwing caution to the wind that it would take much longer to move back since the recession was so bad. I laughed really loud that day in April when I got an interim job offer in Portland and said, “Honey, pack your bags, cuz we’re moving to Portland, Oregon!”

Here we are in our warm little cottage in Portland, Oregon. We’ve settled in quite nicely; meeting some new friends and re-connecting with family. We both landed awesome jobs. I dove further into my photography and created this blog. I think a daily photo blog challenge for myself was just what I needed. Kari picked up a new guitar. She’s learning the A, E, and D chords. We both tried out yoga for the first time. And, we definitely both agree that it’s a great workout for the body, mind, and especially our Spirits.

Through all of the other rough patches we encountered this year, I think what we both learned above everything else is that we’re both very lucky to have each other. Our bond is tight. Our trust is great. Our loyalty and faith in one another is amazing. Our love is intense and passionate. We’re only just getting started!

Bring it on, 2010!

light in the portland *snow*

After all the excitement settled from the snowfall last night, Kari and I went outside to tromp around in the street. I got completely distracted with the camera of course (help, it’s taking over my life!) and tripped out on the car head lights via slow shutter speed.  Way cool!

Sadly enough, I woke up throughout the night to the snow melting on my rooftop … drip, drip, drip. Come back again, Mr. Snow!

table top

I took this photo from my razr camera phone about 2 years ago. I was out with some ol pals in Rohnert Park getting one last good visit in before I pushed off into the great wide open and moved to Charlotte, NC. I miss those good times with my So Cnty friends. All I can think right now is ‘Wow, how my life has changed in the last 2 years.” It really has been a long ass haul.

Charlotte definitely didn’t last very long for me since I’m already back on the west coast living in Portland. I’m very happy here in my new home town. I’m especially looking forward to settling in, growing some roots, and building some great friendships with all the awesome people in this city. I think this is the point in my blog where I need to bust out in song and sing, “We built this city!!! We built this city on rock n rollllllllll….!”

BMH on the HH

p.s. No, he didn’t pee his pants. He had just been at the kitchen sink washing his son’s puke infested clothes after a projectile vomitting scene in the car.
