public art in Portland

27 Apr

After trying to describe this public art project to several people, I decided that I needed to post a few photos of it. We stumbled upon this 6-month public art project on Saturday afternoon at Mt Tabor park. A local artist received a lofty grant to create 10 art pieces that are being installed at various public areas around Portland. Each “acupuncture needle” symbolizes a meridian on the body of the “City of Portland”. The needle at Mt Tabor Park represents the lung meridian. The needle at South Waterfront park symbolizes the kidney meridian. And so on…

The project brings awareness to the City of Portland’s 25 year plan and how it will effect the rivers, parks, roads, bridges, pathways, etc. I think it’s a pretty cool project. To learn more, go to http://acuportland.org
