After trying to describe this public art project to several people, I decided that I needed to post a few photos of it. We stumbled upon this 6-month public art project on Saturday afternoon at Mt Tabor park. A local artist received a lofty grant to create 10 art pieces that are being installed at various public areas around Portland. Each “acupuncture needle” symbolizes a meridian on the body of the “City of Portland”. The needle at Mt Tabor Park represents the lung meridian. The needle at South Waterfront park symbolizes the kidney meridian. And so on…
The project brings awareness to the City of Portland’s 25 year plan and how it will effect the rivers, parks, roads, bridges, pathways, etc. I think it’s a pretty cool project. To learn more, go to http://acuportland.org

On a warm Sunday afternoon, I wandered through downtown Portland. I decided to take load off at the infamous Pioneer Square. As I sat along the steps of the square, I noticed that all the Portlanders and tourists were sitting along the steps like me – except for this one guy who decided that laying smack dab in the middle of the square was the most comfortable spot.
I bet he’s still there.

I can’t take any credit for these photos, other than it was my camera. Kari took these photos last weekend while we were out on Hawthorne at the McMennamin’s Bagdad Pub. It was looking like the day would turn out to be quite nice outside and then *BAM* — downpour…….

Look at those rain drops. Note to group: Portland usually doesn’t have downpour. It typically gets that pissy pissy misty rain that never ends. This down pour seemed kinda flukey, but was kinda fun!

Have you ever seen this Portland street performer who wears a Mickey Mouse hat and plays the trumpet? We were at the Bagdad Pub on Hawthorne the other day and saw him staged on the corner. Even in the down pour rain, he lit up and tooted his horn even louder!
Funny guy!

We had an awesome power hike yesterday at Forest Park. What a beautiful spring day it was here in Portland. I think the weather got up to 72degrees; sunny and cool. The first day of the year that I wore shorts! Yay! Forest park is an amazing urban park. It’s the largest urban park within city limits. Yes, way larger than Central Park. And the view… well, if those darn tourists would get out of the way we’d be able to see the view. This guy actually brought his tripod.
So, I decided to take a picture of his view. Man, I so need a new camera.

Yesterday was annual Record Store Day. In celebration of this special day, we walked over the mtn and through the woods to Hawthorne’s “Jackpot Records”. Rad store it is. Of course I tried out both listening stations.

My album pick of the day (crappy photo, but here it is) is Solid Gold’s “Synchronize”.

So, my current show has been going pretty well. I have been totally honored to have the opportunity to showcase my photography at Gigibar! Last weekend’s art reception went well with a nice turn out of people I invited and locals from the neighborhood! I sold a piece too! Whoot whooot!
Oh, and I’m so excited because last night I met with a manager of another local coffee shop and asked about availability on his calendar for possibly showing my work there. We booked August!
Thanks, Uni! Looking forward to it!

I had an impromtu photo session with Naomi, Elice and their new blue healer puppy, Murphy yesterday. Naomi and Elice came to my art opening at the Gigibar. Yay! Thank you! They had left Murphy in the car and asked us to come out to the car to meet her. How adorable is she?!?!!!!
The art opening ended at 1pm, so we all decided to take Murphy to the dog park to see how she’d do with other dogs – big dogs especially. Of course, I had my camera with me so I click click clicked away. I’ve got to tell you that she’s got the softest ears, best puppy breath, and the cutest, curliest tail ever. She carried the cutest look on her face when she’d see a dog approaching her. Once she realized that the dog was about 500 times as big as her, she’d quickly hide behind her mommas’ legs. In time, she’ll be just fine with other dogs.
We’re both so happy for Naomi and Elice and their new puppy! They’re so happy with her! Kari and I are now pondering when and how can we get one of those cute pups, too. Of course we’re having to consult with our 2 cats in the meantime. It’s gonna take some time for that to happen.

I am totally honored to have the opportunity to showcase my first photography exhibit for the entire month of April at Gigibar here in Portland. The exhibit is already up and I heard from Gigi that folks are enjoying several pieces as they sip away at their yummy beverages and snacks.
On Saturday, April 10th, I will be hosting an open house / art reception from 11:00am – 1:00pm. If you have time, I’d love for you and your people to stop by the Gigibar located at 5941 SE Division Street, PDX, 97206 (on the corner of SE 60th and SE Division). Lite snacks will be available.
Thank you for all your support!
My best,
Trina
